|
|
I have many files with the following format:
Album-Track#-Artist-Title
SC1000-01 – Beatles – Help.mp3
SC1000-01 – Beatles – Help.cdg
There is 4 fields separated by a dash. The above 2 files are in a zip file by the same name with one zip file for each song.
All the files are stored in folders in a directory tree with the root name "karaoke". Under karaoke is the manufacture name (ie, Sound Choice, Pioneer, Chartbusters,.....). Under the manufacture name is a folder for each album, and inside this folder is about 15 WinAmp type zip files.
I'm looking for a tool or set of tools that will do the following automatically:
1. automatically unzip all zip files inside the directory tree
2. automatically parse the mp3 filename (same format as mp3 above)
and tag the mp3 file: SC1000->Album, 01->Track#,
Beatles->Artist, Help->Title
3. rename the mp3 and cdg files to Album - Track# (this would just
remove the - Artist - Title part of the filename)
4. delete all the zip files and keep only the .mp3 and .cdg files
It's important that I know the "Album - Track#" part of the filename is unique to all other filenames.
The WinAmp Media Library works great with .mp3 and .cdg files only without zip files. Now you can name the other tags such as genre, date,.......
Also, autokdj plugin works great with .mp3 and .cdg files as I've tested this with over 6000 files and its faster and cleaner operation.
So the question is does anyone know of a tool or set of tools that will do the above 4 steps automatically????? |

| Might want to check filemonkey out. If you google for autokdj/filemonkey together you should be able to find a video a user made on the subject. Once you get it set, it's fairly automagic and will be able to tear through your entire library like magic. |

This looks like a good program but it's $29 and no free trial and I can't tell from the description if it does everything you need.
1. Need to rename files to output format: album - track - artist - title
I think the renamer needs to be configurable to specify an input format & output format. Most input formats are like the output format above.
However, I have albums with different input formats, so I have to do this piece-meal for some albums.
2. Need to tag the mp3 file based on text in the filename in output format
I think the tagger needs to be configurable to match the output format. |

Try Dr. Tag. I've been using it since 2002. It makes no mention of handling the renaming of CDG files, but it works transparently when it finds an MP3 of the same name. You can even set-up your own templates in case the files are named in some weird, non-standard way. You can generate tags from filenames, generate filenames from tags, fix capitalization, spelling, etc. I think it costs $29 for the full version, but it'll be the best $29 you've ever spent. The only bug I've found is that if you do several (100+) files at once, it tends to put a random character at the end of the filename. So long as you fix a few discs at a time, it's not a problem.
BTW, it also has customizable HTML templates you can use to output songbooks. If you use that feature, make sure you print the songbooks from Firefox. IE screws up the building of the tables. |

Can someone please explain the advantages and disadvantages to using WinAmp Zip files versus using the .mp3/.cdg directly? I know zip files may save disk space but what about speed? If you want to use other tags like year, genre,.....can you do this with zip files? |

| It's just easier to manage files when they're zipped together (for me it is at least) On a dual core system the speed difference in negligible. Even on a non-dual core, still negligible. |
